Day 1 continued

Mi senora goes to sleep at 10:30 pm, and I don’t have to be anywhere until 9:00 a.m.  I’m going to rediscover what it is like to be well rested.  I brought some work to do, but that will not happen on my first night.

After mi senora closed la tienda, we went walking around downtown.  All I could think about is how much Ryan would LOVE it here.  There are gorgeous historic hotels, cathedrals, restaurants, bars, vendors all along the streets, and much more.  In the town square, entertainers banged on drums and children danced all around.  There were clowns putting on a show.  I regret not taking pictures but I was too busy taking it all in.  I will have to go back on another weekend night with the other A&M students.

Town squares and parks here have public wifi.  I tried to update my blog when I was on the square but I am not sure it went through.  The internet was very slow.  Not having a connection to Ryan is making me horribly homesick and making me question being away from him and Ras for so long.

I exercised for 45 minutes today.  I am very proud of myself.  When I started to slow down I pictured Kelly in front of me exercising super fast.   I knew if she really was there I would be doing all I could to keep up.  After I exercised I took a shower.  The water pressure began to slow so I immediately started rinsing the conditioner from my hair.  In addition to no air conditioning and no clothes dryers, they have rationed water through certain pipes – I don’t quite understand why some faucets work and others don’t.  I just know that at the moment I have a bucket of water in my bathroom because the water she has access to has little pressure and can’t make it up to my bathroom.  She said this happens sometimes at this time of the year at night.  Hopefully I will have an operational bathroom manana.

Mi senora has helped me practice Spanish but we mostly get to know each other in English.  She has told me several times how lonely she is which is why I think she doesn’t mind talking to me in English.  I’m going to relax, learn as much as I can, and try to enjoy every moment.  I am already doing better than I was earlier -  I discovered that I can connect to a neighbor's wifi :)
