Guanajuato

5-26-12

We met bright and early on Saturday to travel to Guanajuato.

We went to a museum that used to be a grainery.  For some reason they would only allow you to take pics with your phone and not your camera.

After visiting the house/museum of Frida, I was very excited to get to tour Diego Rivera's house.  As I write this on 6-8-12, I watched the movie Frida last night.  Loved it!  We could only take pics on the 1st floor.

Here is a pic of their cathedral.  There was a beautiful wedding in progress.

This was our view at lunch.  I believe this area is called the Cheese Garden.  Looking down on this area, it is in the shape of a wedge of cheese.

Their beautiful theatre.  It was closed but we peaked inside.

This is the alley of the kiss.  It is very narrow.  Two lovers could kiss from across their balconies.  A rich daughter was told to stop kissing a poor miner boy.  The father caught them kissing again and killed his daughter (so the legend goes).

You are supposed to kiss on the steps in order to have good luck.

We had some time to explore the market.  So much stuff!

On the way to a mine we passed a beautiful castle.

 Here is the mine.

The boy from the legend is said to have jumped to his death here after his love was killed.

I believe this was called hill of the frog.  Do you see it?

There were souvenier shops around the mine.  This one had some interesting items :)
